I finally got my letter from my mission president telling me all the information I would need about the Philippines. He told me to write him a letter telling him of my thoughts on serving.
This is what I wrote...
Dear President Hansen,
I am so excited to serve in the Philippines, Cebu mission! Before I received my mission call, I prayed and fasted to the Lord that I would go and serve wherever he desired me to as long as I would be able to receive confirmation that, that was the place I was supposed to go. I had never thought I would be called to the Philippines, however, as soon as I opened my call I had an overwhelming feeling of that was where my Heavenly Father wanted me. I am 100% sure that I am following the path that the Lord wants for me.
I love this Gospel, I always have. I don’t know where I would be without it and it brings so much joy in my life. I am excited to share this joy with others, and remind them of the truths they once knew and accepted before they came to earth. I feel that the Gospel is a message of joy and hope and that it brings everyone who lives by it happiness. Since I have been preparing for a mission, I have felt a greater bond with my Father in Heaven, and my testimony and confidence in the Gospel has strengthened exponentially. Already I have experienced numerous blessings from a mission and I am even more excited to see what is in store. I already have a great love for the Filipino people and have heard of their friendliness. I know this mission will be hard, but I know the Lord believes I can accomplish what he wants. I take the message from Nephi 3:7 to heart when it says the Lord will provide a way so that we can accomplish what he has commanded of us.
I know my Father in Heaven lives; he created the plan of happiness because of his great love for us. He sent his son to atone for our sins, so that we could return to live with him and our families forever. I know Joseph Smith is a prophet of God and was chosen to bring about the restoration of the church. I believe President Monson is a prophet of God and receives revelation for our church, just as the prophets in the scriptures did. Our Gospel is very unique, because we have the gift of the Holy Ghost, and that is how I will be teaching, is through the spirit. I have faith that the Lord will guide me in my words and actions and that I will receive strength from him. My mission scripture is 2 Nephi 22:2 which I think sums up my life and mission, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also has become my salvation.”
